the future of nigeria

i just read my friend's blog about the mind set of nigerians. it so sad really. we are the most hard working people in the world. yet, our country is in shambles and we are rated the most corrupt country in the WORLD. why is this? everyone i know are hard working. they shine at their place of work. and they got where they are honestly. so where are the crooks coming from? over 90% of my generation have some form of tertiary education so why is it that we are still considered a third world country with a high illiteracy rate?

it is so insulting to someone with my level of education to watch the commercials on american tv. these days, companies have noticed that the best way to entice consumers is to show a starving child purportedly in africa and then promise that 1 cent/dollar whatever will go towards feeding this child or curing aids. as far as i am concerned there are just as many starving children right here in the US and their HIV population higher. but how is my one voice going to stand out when every other is shushing me down. nigerians agree the image projected is wrong but they "cant do anything" because they dont want to "offend their american benefactors".......whatever that means. when are we going to stand up for ourselves?

i hear there is an "indecency bill" being passed through the house. is that what is now the priority in nigeria? our schools, hospitals, roads are falling apart; we are nobodies in the international community; our brain drain gets severe with each passing day, yet the most important bill in the house is whether spaghetti straps should be outlawed. figures no? there is no electricity 20 hours out of the day forcing our international investors to pack up n return home. but by god! our kids (well the females anyway...we all know who the real targets are.....) will dress "decently". decently being an hypocrite's definition of it. doesnt matter that half of those passing this law cannot read it talk less of edit it for grammatical errors. or that covering up wont help us when we're sick but the nurses and doctors are still on strike because they havent been paid in a year. or the house of rep to sign the bill died because the power went out during an operation to save him after that motor accident that happened when his car flipped after hitting that HUGE pothole on the highway..........i could go on.

i suck at writing. and i call myself incoherent with reason. but o if only more than just 1 person could read this n not just gain something from but actually speak up and speak OUT!
